Taekwondo Funding Restored

We are back!
Australian Taekwondo is funded by the Australian Government.

It is incredibly exciting that Australian Taekwondo is now a properly funded National Sporting Organisation as recognised by the Australian Sports Commission.

Thank you to all of you for your efforts in getting us to a merged organisation with good governance in place. Without your efforts the Australian Government would not be supporting us and we look forward to using this funding to build on the great work that you are all doing.

The full investment allocation can be found at this link.

Member Honoured In Queen's Birthday Awards

Australian Taekwondo congratulates Thanh Le from Impact Martial Arts who was awarded the Public Service Medal (PSM) for outstanding public service in the area of humanitarian and emergency response.

Thanh is no stranger to Australian Taekwondo having been in charge of the volunteer force at the World Senior Selections and the recent Cadet Selections events, and we are honoured to have had his expertise and services.

Even with his busy work schedule, off saving lives on a global scale, Thanh has always managed to contribute to his local community through his volunteer instructing at IMPACT. As a great leader and role model for his young daughters, one of which just competed at the Cadet World Championship Selections Thanh always makes time to help and lead those around him.

Already being an exemplary member here at IMPACT Thanh has also been recognised for his wider contributions. We are very proud of the acknowledgement that Thanh has received.
Thanh has given twenty years of service to humanitarian and emergency response, and to international public health causes in the public and private sector and working with international organisations.

He has regularly been deployed overseas to disaster areas, in trying conditions and at very short notice these include: - The Asian Development Bank as an adviser to the Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance (2013-14) - Head of the DFAT Ebola Task Force (2014-15) The international humanitarian and emergency response work that Mr Le has overseen over the past decade has undoubtedly saved many lives, and allowed affected communities to recover much faster from disaster than would otherwise have been the case.”

2017 Australian Cadet Team Selections

Last Saturday Australian Taekwondo hosted an amazing Cadet Selection event at the Australian Institute of Sport's Combat Centre on the Saturday of the long weekend.

It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and skill of our future generation of athletes on display, and you can still catch all the highlights of the final rounds on our Facebook page which were streamed live, including the medal presentations.

Congratulations to all of our competitors whose results are available on our website.

We will now be undergoing a process of selecting the Cadet Team's coaches who will work with Australian Taekwondo to select a suitable international event for the Team to contest.

Keeping Our Sport Safe

An Updated Member Protection Policy

Further to our monthly snapshot in May, the Board has approved an updated Member Protection Policy to ensure that Australian Taekwondo is complying with the latest best practice in member protection.

The new policy can be found HERE and please take the time to familiarise yourself with the policy as member protection is a responsibility that all of us need to bear.

All of our States and Clubs should have a Member Protection Policy in place.  If you want to know more please contact admin@austkd.com.au.

You may also be aware that many sports were asked to answer to a Royal Commission into Child Abuse in recent years.  Therefore it is important that we are all aware of our obligations if we are unfortunate to suspect child abuse.

Please see our handy guide HERE.
